Christmas in Britain

The first Christmas card was sent in 1843. The Christmas bird in many Christmas Cards is the Robin.

British people decorate their homes with a tree: it has a lot of lights, a star at the top... This tradition comes from Germany.

The popular food on Christmas Day in Britain is the stuff turkey, and the most popular desserts

are Christmas cake and pudding. Four weeks before Christmas, the Britain people celebrate the stir up Sunday, on this day they prepare the Christmas cake and pudding, everyone in the family stirs, and at the same time they make a wish. Once a week before Christmas, they pour alcohol over Christmas cake, and two or three days before Christmas they decorate it with massipan and icying.

In Britain, all the people decorate a lot their homes. They put a Christmas tree inside, and outside, they put a wreath on the door.

Christmas in Britain is quite different than in Spain. It is very short and the people don't celebrate the Three Kings.

The people usually have a big meal with the family on Christmas Day. They eat roast turkey with stuffing, brussels sprouts, roast patatoes and gravy. For desert, they eat mince pies or triffle.

Chistmas Eve is not so important but Boxing Day is also an important family celebration some people believe the origin of Boxing Day is because you throw away all the boxes from the presents and they veep. The good plates in boxes for the next day.

There is a tradition of carol-singing which is always a family activity.

On Christmas Day, children sometimes have to sing a special song. In Britain, they don't have the Three Kings. They have Santa Claus who comes down the chimney dusing the night of Christmas Eve.

My Family

VALENTINA’S FAMILY

My family isn’t very big, I have grandparents, parents, brothers, stepsister….

My grandparents on my mum side:

My grandfather's name’s Joan, and my grandmother is  Maria, my mum’s name is Juliana  and my brother’s name’s Teodor but he’’s called Teo.

My name is Valentina. My grandparents have 5 daughters: Their names are Adinela, Carmen, Lola, Costanza, and my uncle Gorgitza. I have 4 cousins on my mother’s side, my cousins names are Christian, Catalina, Alina and Leonardo.

Catalina has two sons, I don’t know their names. Christian and Catalina they are my uncle and my aunt’s children. Alina is Lola’s daughter and Leonardo (Leo) is my aunt Adinela and my uncle Yonut’s son. My Aunt Adinela and my uncle Yonuts are from Romania, and my cousin is Italian.

My mother has a boyfriend, he has a daughter, her name’s Aroa, this is my step sister. My stepfather has got a sister, her name’s Lùpe, she has one child,  he is my step cousin. His name’s Alvaro, his father’s name is Antonio. My step grandparents names are Daniela and Santos.

My mother Inma got married with my father Antonio. 

My father had four brothers: Two twin brothers and two twin sisters, Mari Carmen and Paqui. My father was the youngest of the family. His brothers are My uncle Cristobal and my uncle Miguel, they are twins. My cousin Anna is my aunt Paqui's daugther. Roger is Anna's boyfriend. Miquel is my brother and Isabel is my aunt.

On my mother's side My uncle Antonio is my cousin, his father is Diego, then my uncle Joaquin, he is living in Ardales, a population in 'Malaga'. Joaquin is my cousin, his father is Miguel who is ten years old and my cousin Pablo is twenty-one years. My aunt Yolanda is married to my uncle Joaquin, they are Pablo and Miguel's parents.

And finally my uncle Paco has 2 children, Lucia ia 8 years old and Rubén is 2 years old. His wife is Eli. My 4 great-grandparents are dead.

My grandparents are Antoni and Elisa. They live in Blanes. I have 3 aunts and 1 uncle.

My aunt Luci has 2 sons and their name are Manel and Óscar, they are 21 and 16 years old. They live in Blanes, She has a husband, Manolo.

My aunt Eli has 1 daughter and 3 sons and their names are Lucia, Toni, Miguel and Eloi, their ages are 12, 8, 22 and 2 years old. They live in Blanes.

My aunt Óscar has 1 daughter, Sarah, she is 12 years old. They live in Blanes.

And finally my aunt Cristina has 2 sons, Marc and Carlos. Marc is 8 years old and Carlos 1 year old. They live in Blanes. Her husband is Carlos. My 3 great-grandparents are dead and i have 1 great-grandmother. She is 95 years old.
