23rd April, SAINT GEORGE

There was a time in a village people had a problem. Near the village there was a dragon.
This beast needed to eat and it destroyed the houses and ate animals.
As the people wanted that dragon stopped the destruction, they made a plan.
Everyday there was a draw. The person that won it had to go to the dragon and it ate this person.
The plan did well and the beast didn't destroy the town.
But one day the princess won the draw and had to go to the beast's cave.
People didn't want the princess went there and many people wanted to go there. But the king didn't like this idea.
When the princess went to the dragon's cave, a knight talked with them.
He went to de dragon and hit its with his spear, and when the blood fell in the ground a rose grew.
Next, the king asked him if he wanted getting with the princess but he didn't want it.
Finally the knight left them for ever.

One time in the past, it was a dragon in a small village. The dragon ate the sheep of the people.
It could fly, swim and walk. And it had got a badly breath, then killed all people that were approaching. But one day there weren't sheep, and it and the king of the village agreed:
He gave it one person every day.
One day the chosen person was the daughter's king, the princess. She was beautiful, thin, young..
She was walking to the dragon's cove while the people were despaired and fell of pain. After that he was one young knight riding on a white horse and with a good armor, he was St. George.
The princess said him: "escape, escape" but St. George didn't go away. He fight with the dragon and threw a lance. And from the blood, a rose went out. Then St. George and the princess went to the village. When they were on, the king wanted that they were marrying but St George didn't want and disappeared without leaving track.

dragon wanted to eat the princess. The king called St. George because the could save the princess St. George was one of the best heroes to save a princess.
When St. George went to the dragon's cave , and St. George killed the dragon with a blade , the blood of the dragon's transformed to roses , and the hero saved her.

In a town far far away, people worked payed, did parties... but one day a big dragon came to the town. The dragon was green, with bigs tooths, red eyes, long tail and claws.
Every day the dragon ate 2 people, ten cows and five sheep, but when people and the animal finished. The dragon was hungry and angry, it began to destroy the houses and burnt the forest.
But the dragon kidnapped the princess and returned to his cave. The king, the father of the princess, was worried because the dragon kidnapped the princess. But one day a knight came to. The knight talked to the king about the princess and the dragon. The knight said: "When I kill the dragon the princess will married me", and the king accepted.
The dragon was sleeping in the cave and the knight went inside the cave, saw the dragon and the princess, took the princess and ran to the forest but the dragon listened to a small noise, rose up and flew chasing the knight.
The dragon was spitting fire to hit the knight or the horse. When they arrived at a clearing the knight and the dragon began to fight. The dragon hit the knight in his arm but when the dragon was shot to the knight, the knight speared into its heart.
The blood began to transform in a red rose. The knight took the rose and gave to the princess, the princess was in love to the knight. When the news arrived to town all people were happy and did a party.

Once upon a time there was one very beautiful town. In the town there was a green dragon. The dragon ate all the girls of the town. One day the dragon went to the princess of the town. The king called a very strong knight. The knight went to the town and investigated the dragon . Five hours later, the knight saw the dragon.
The knight's name was George, he fought against the dragon and hurt the dragon and it died. The blood of the dragon turned in a rose and George gave the rose to the princess. And the town turned to be a safe place.

St. Jordi's Day in Catalonia is a day that many boys give a rose to girls and girls give a book to boys .
St Jordi's legend is about one princess and the dragon kidnapped the princess. St. Jordi is a knight and he went to help the princess: When St. Jordi saw the dragon, he fought with the dragonand St Jordi took out his sword, killed the dragon and from the dragon's blood appeared one red rose, and St. Jordi gave the red rose to the princess.

There was a knight on a horse and he came to prevent the death of the Princess. He fought against the dragon and beat him. When he killed the dragon, his blood was transformed in a beautiful rose that he gave to the Princess and the Princess gave to him a book.

SAINT DAVID and SAINT GEORGE

Saint David Wales Patron Saint is on 1st March. He did miracles, he cured people didn't see and
cured them. Also he did piliginage to Rome and Jerusalem. St. David Day is on 1st March because he died this day when he was 100 years old. In this day in Wales girls dress up like ladies , and boys dress up like miners . The traditional flower in Wales is daffodil. In Wales people eat Wales cakes and this cake have got current inside.

Saint David has a priest, he was famous because he did miracles. He rose up and cured blind and deaf people. He pilgrimaged at Roma and Jerusalem. On 1st March many children dress up with costumes. Boys dress up like miners and the girls like Walles ladies. Daffodil is a tradicional flower on Saint David Day. Leeks is a tradicional vegetable to eat like soup and for dessert they eat Walles cake with currents.

He was a priest and did miracles.
One miracle was he rose up the people.
In this day, people go to school or work.
In the school, the students do Eisteddfod.
It is a competition of dance, music, etc.
Children dress up with costumes. The girls
wear a costume of Wales lady and the boys
of miners, because in the past the men
worked in the mines extracting coal.
The traditional food is leek soup and
the dessert is a Wales cake with currents.
The traditional flower is daffodil.

EASTER IN WALES AND IN CATALONIA

At Easter in Britain schools have got two weeks and workers four days holidays.
On Sunday Palm children go to church with the palms and their new Spring clothes.
On Good Friday is typical eating cod and on Easter Sunday eating lamb and Simmel cake.
Also the Queen gives a coin medal to important people.
In these days the families paint eggs and hide them in the garden, after the children look for and eat them. But in Spain in this day the Godfather or Godmother gives a "mona" to his godson and god-daughter.
Finally the last day of Easter Holiday is Bank Monday Holiday.

The Easter in Britain is very similar than in Spain because both celebrate Good Friday and Easter Monday. In Britain they hid the chocolate eggs in the garden. In Britain the Queen give coins to different important people. The typical cakes at Easter in Britain are small cakes that have got a cross of Jesus and another brown cake with eleven marzipan balls, called Simnel Cake.

Easter in Spain: In Spain at Easter Sunday people eat roast lamb. The students have got 1 week and 3 days holiday. In Catalunya Easter Monday people eat chocolate eggs . The lent started in Carnaval and finishes on Easter Day. On Tuesday in Blanes, in Catalonia, is el Vilar Day.

The Bank Holidays in Easter are two weeks for the students and 4 days for the workers. On Good Friday people eat fish to celebrate when Jesus died and on Easter Sunday is when Jesus resurrected. More people at Easter eat roast lamb, fruit cake, hot cross buns, simnel cake and chocolate eggs. To eat chocolate eggs families hide the eggs in the garden and children go to search them and when you search an egg of chocolate you can eat it, if you don't search any ,you don't eat chocolate egg. The name of this activity is Easter egg hunt. To finish , at Easter the Queen of England does a ceremony and gives coins to important people.

SOME WRITERS

Jennifer Bassett has worked in English Language Teaching since 1972. She has been a teacher, teacher trainer, editor, and materials writer, and has taught students from all over the world. A SPECIAL WEEKEND

Lis went to Madrid with her friend Rebecca. She liked Madrid . During her travel she visited the Retiro park, Mayor square and la Puerta del Sol . Lis met her friend Rebeca in the university. The typical breakfast in Madrid is chocolate and churros. Lis liked the typical tapes of Spain.

Last weekend Lis went to Madrid . she went with her friend Rebecca. because she never visited Madrid before, she visited Retiro park, Mayor square, Puerta del sol. And at 6 o'clock she was eating chocolate and churros.

Lis went to Madrid and she went with Rebecca, her friend from Britain. Lis never went to Madrid before and she liked it. In the museum, there was a long queue. Lis visited the Retiro park, Rastro market,Mayor Square and the Puerta del Sol. Lis on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. was eating chocolate and churros. Lis liked the tapas and the calamares sandwich. Lis stayed in a hostal in Puerta del Sol and she didn't visit the clothing shop of flamenco.

Last weekend she went to Madrid. It was her first visit to Madrid. She went with her friend Rebecca. Rebecca lives in Tarragona but before she studied with Lis in Wales. They visited the Retiro Park, Mayor Square and Puerta del Sol but they didn't visit El Prado museum because the queue was around the museum. On Sunday she had breakfast chocolate with churros. They slept in a hotel in Puerta del Sol. Lis liked Madrid and she liked tapas, morcilla, chorizo, cecina and chistorra.

Lis went to Madrid with her friend Rebecca from Tarragona. On Saturday Lis visited Retiro Park, and also Rastro market and Mayor square. She was sleeping in a hotel in Puerta del Sol, it was very big in the center of Madrid. She didn't visit the Prado museum, and she didn't visit a flamenco shop, because she doesn't like it. On Sunday Lis ate chocolate with churros. She liked Madrid , it was very amazing.

Lis travelled to Madrid by plane. She stayed there from Thursday to Sunday and she went with Rebecca, her friend. When they arrive I suppose that they went to hotel in Puerta del Sol. She didn't go to Prado museum because in it there were queue because there was an exhibition by Francis Bacon. She looked at many monuments because she did a tour with a tourist bus. Lis ate different food but her favourite food was chocolate with churros and calamari sandwich. She doesn't want to live in Madrid because it is a big city and the places are far. They used metro. On Friday they went to Retiro park in the afternoon. She liked tapas and looked at Royal Palace.

She went to Madrid with her friend Rebeca. Rebeca studied with Lis and works in Tarragona. She went to Madrid because she had never visited Madrid before and she liked it. The places that she visited were: Retiro park, Rastro Market, Mayor Square, The Puerta del Sol... And the places that she didn't visit for example were The Prado museum, because that was a long queue. She stayed in a hotel in Puerta del Sol. She ate chocolate with churros at 6:00 o'clock on Saturday and she liked squid sandwich. The things that she liked more were the tapas and the morcilla. Finally, she came back from Madrid.

Lis had got a great and very special weekend because she visited Madrid with Rebecca. She is a teacher assistant like she, they are university friends. She didn't go to Prado Museum, but she visited the "Retiro" park and the Mayor square, ohh! also "la Puerta del Sol". She stayed in a hotel near there. Lis had squid sandwich and typical Madrid's food, specially, she liked the beef ham and the black sausages. Lis would return it because she liked a lot.

Last weekend was special for Lis because she visited Madrid. She enjoyed a lot and she visited Retiro park (her favorite place in Madrid). She looked at Madrid with tourist bus, and she travelled by aeroplane. She didn't visit the Prado Museum because there was a long queue. She didn't buy many things, only Lis bought postcards. She went to Madrid with her friend and they were impressive because there were cows in the streets of Madrid, but the cows weren't real. When she was in Madrid she ate churros with chocolate and she ate a sandwich of calamaris. She lived in a hotel in Madrid. She was in Madrid from Thursday to Sunday. She liked a lot this travel.
