SAINT GEORGE PATRON SAINT

It's traditional to celebrate Sant Jordi in Catalonia, and Saint George is also celebrated in England and in Georgia. In IES S'Agulla we celebrate Sant Jordi. In S'Agulla there is a contest with poems and stories of Sant Jordi. The languages of the contest are English, Spanish, French and Catalan. The books day is on 23rd April.

In Catalonia, we have a Patron Saint, he is Saint George. In England is Saint George, too. The legend is the same. His day is 23rd April, this day is the Book Day because William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes died on this date.
The history comes from a war between the Christian religion and the old religions in Rome. The Christian symbol was Saint George and the old religions symbol was the dragon. In the war, the Christians killed the old religions. Saint George is from Turkey.
In London there are jugglers and famous people in the street this day.
In Catalonia there are many stalls in the streets on 23rd April. The boys give roses to the girls and the girls give books to the boys. In the primary school we did paintings in Sant Jordi’s Contest at weekend.

In Catalonia, England and Georgia, Saint George is the Patron Saint. This is celebrated on 23rd in April. But in England don't celebrate this day, in Catalonia celebrates. In Catalonia the women give a book to men, because it's the book's day, and the men give a red rose to women, because in the legend the blood of dragon transformed in a red rose. In London celebrate different activities in the street. I like when in the school celebrate a literaty contest. Saint George was from Turkey.

In England doesn't celebrate Saint George Day but here yes. But Saint George day also is the Patron Saint in Georgia. In England is not holiday on 23rd April. But Saint George isn't from England or from Catalonia, he is from Turkey. Saint George legend is a Christian Legend. In Catalonia the women give a book to her partner and the men give a rose to his partner. But the tradition of give a book is because on 23rd April William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes died.

SAINT GEORGE LEGEND

THE DIARY OF A SILCAN VILLAGER
1st April
Today I’m starting to write to you. I am in Silca, a cold town in Catalonia. I am Erle, a young student and servant of the king. I am an orphan and I haven’t got money. I am writing this personal diary because today have occurred two little earthquakes and there is a burnt forest. 5th April
After the earthquakes it didn’t happen anything and I am very surprised. I couldn’t write because I was very busy the last days.
12th April
I am very desperate today. A dragon arrived to the town and ate a lot of animals. The king said that we have to give some animals for its diet but are finishing and when they finish completely, we won’t eat meat and we will die. I am very exasperated, I have to go out the town but I haven’t got money and I don’t know where I have to go. I need a miracle.
17th April
The dragon ate all the animals and the king said that we are going to give people to the dragon. The first raffle was today, the unfortunates were the smith and his family. The dragon ate the children in only one mouthful. It was horrible. Now it is a quarter to three in the morning. I can’t sleep, I am traumatized. I need to write. I am desperate. OK I’m going to describe the dragon. It’s very big, it’s enormous. It is blue and his head is like an adult person. Its arms are short and its legs too.
23rd April
It’s twelve o’clock, it’s time of the dragon lunch…Wow! Today the unfortunate is the princess! I don’t know what I have to do. The soldiers are taking the princess to the dragon’s cave… It’s amazing, the princess is going to die! What? Someone is riding a horse to here. He or she has got an amour, is a knight! A knight is coming to save the princess, it’s like a tale! The knight is a… is a man! He has got a lance, he’s walking to the dragon and… Wow! He hammed his lance in the dragon’s mouth and saved the princess! But the dragon’s body is converting into a rose, the knight takes the rose to the princess… It is so romantic. I am going to ask the name of the knight… OK, his name is George. What? He is leaving the village. Is he crazy? Today is an amazing day!
24th August
I even remember the day of the knight. I remember his name, it is George. I will remember it forever!

s'Agulla, 2010.

A long time ago, in a village there was a big dragon. People was very scared because the dragon was very big! But they couldn't do anything against of that terrible dragon.
The dragon ate all the animals in the village and people had to reach a deal with the king.
The king decided to do a raffle. Every day a person would be given to the dragon for their food. Every day the dragon ate a person. But one day, the raffle decided that day was the princess that should be eaten by the dragon. The king didn't want his daughter for surrenders the dragon but people complained and they said that his daughter should also be eaten as other people. The king decided that his daughter, the same day would be delivered to the dragon. He said goodbye to her daughter and the young princess went to the cave of the big dragon.
Suddenly, a knight came riding a horse with a shield and a sward and he drove the sward into the dragon. From the dragon's blood appeared many red roses and the knight clasped a rose and he gave to the princess. The king was so happy and he wanted to the boy marry with the princess. But the knight had other missions to comply and he had to go.
So he said goodbye and everyone was happy!!

SAINT GEORGE POEM

St. George's sword

tore the heart of the dragon.
from its blood,
a rose revived.
The prince with love
to the princess gave
and happily ever after
were the two ...

CORALINE

Coraline is a boring and sad girl in her new home with strange neighbours up and down. Then she discovers that behind a wall in his house, there is a secret door to another world, with one different mother and one different father, a better version of her life. She must decide whether to stay forever in this magical place or not.

Anna Gómez, 1st C

Coraline is a bit strange story, it is not very common to find a door of the house that goes into another dimension with another family with button eyes. Yes, the movie has been intriguing.

Alicia Carrasco, 1st C

I like this film because it's an intriguing and mysterious, it leaves you impressive.

THE CANTERVILLE GHOST

WILDE, Oscar: The Canterville Ghost. Oxford University. Oxford Bookworms, 2. Oxford, 2004 . 841/A1-A2

The story is about a family who moves to a house which is haunted and there is a ghost but this ghost is not scary, so children laugh doing ambushes and giving shocks it.

I liked the book because the story is based on children who disturb ghosts and so children are not afraid of ghosts.

The book is rather childish but to learn English is good because there are many words to learn. I recommend this book to learn more. Although the story is quite simple, from the beginning until the end is very entertaining.

EASTER

On Good Friday children paint eggs in the school. The tradition is that adults hide the Easter eggs in the garden and the children have to find them.
On Palm Sanday people wear new things, shoes, socks, pants, shirt...
The normal thing is to eat a dinner called "roasdinner" with meat, potatoes, vegetables...

Joan Falgueras, 1st A

Easter is a very famous tradition. On Good Friday they eat Hot Cross Bun. They eat the Easter egg and they don't eat meat.
In England the adult people hide the eggs in the garden and the children look for them.
Easter in England starts in the past, it began because the hare was a God because laid eggs.
Easter in Spain has got more meaning than in England. In Catalonia we eat "Mona" and we go to the church to celebrate the Palm Sunday.
The Vilar Day is only in Blanes

Facundo Cacace, 1st B ESO

Sandro Giustinianni, 1st A

The teacher assistant, David, likes chocolate eggs. He likes black chocolate.
David doesn't celebrate Easter. He goes to the church on Sunday Palm.

Judit Villaescusa, 2nd A

In Britain people celebrate Easter by different way that us but similar days. For example, they paint eggs and hide in the garden and children look for them. In Catalonia we paint eggs but don't hide eggs. In Catalonia is usual eating "la mona". Godfathers give to children. On Easter Tuesday in Blanes we go to "el Vilar". In Britain is very typical on Easter eat vegetables with lamb, or beef, or pork and, on Good Friday, fish. With the Spring there is a new life.
