ANTONI GAUDÍ
LA PEDRERA
Antoni Gaudí i Cornet (1852-1926) is the most popular architect in
history. His revolution of architecture and the visual arts laid the
foundations of the current and future art.
Gaudí was an architect with an innate sense of geometry and volume, as well as a great imaginative ability that allowed him to mentally project the majority of his works before Sagrada Família. In fact, rarely performed detailed plans of his works; preferred to recreate on three-dimensional scale models, moulding all details as the devising going mentally. At other times, he was winging, instructing his advisers on what they had to do.

Antoni Gaudí was born in
1852 in Riudoms or in Reus, to the industrial boilermaker Francesc
Gaudí i Serra (1813–1906) and Antònia Cornet i Bertran
(1819–1876). He was the youngest of five children, of whom three
survived to adulthood: Rosa (1844–1879), Francesc (1851–1876) and
Antoni. Gaudí's family originated in the Auvergne region in southern
France. One of his ancestors, Joan Gaudí, a hawker, moved to
Catalonia in the 17th century; possible origins of Gaudí's family
name include Gaudy or Gaudin.
